Your Session
A few thoughts to help you feel grounded and ready
Come as you are
There’s no pressure to perform or be perfect. This session is about presence, not perfection. You don’t need to “do” anything special, just bring yourself.
That’s more than enough really.
Skin and self-care
You don’t need to wear makeup unless you want to. What matters most is that you feel comfortable in your skin.
In the days leading up to your session, drink water, moisturise, and get some rest if you can. A little extra care can go a long way, not to perfect anything, but to feel more at home in your body when we photograph.
No need to overdo it. Just be gentle with yourself.
What to wear
Choose clothes that feel like you.
Think texture, movement, layers, comfort. If you’re unsure, bring a few options and we’ll decide together.
Colours: Earth tones and jewel tones work especially well — deep greens, burnt sienna, ochre, plum, rust, burnt turmeric, navy, sand, charcoal, moss. They bring warmth and depth without overpowering.
Avoid: loud patterns, logos, or anything that feels too tight or too far from your everyday self, unless bold is your natural state, in which case, go for it.
Bare feet are always welcome. So are oversized knits, flowing fabrics, and anything you can breathe in. Shoes are rarely used, though we can always talk about it.
The day of
Give yourself space, if you can. You don’t need to rush from anything else. Eat something delicious. Hydrate. Take a moment to land in your body and breathe.
If we’re shooting in your home, don’t worry about making it look perfect. A lived-in space is a beautiful space. We’ll move things around if we need to.
If we’re meeting on location, bring layers and comfortable shoes. We might walk a bit or sit in places that don’t look like much until the light hits them just right.
What to bring
You don’t need to bring anything unless we’ve discussed it. But if something feels meaningful, a piece of clothing, an object, a book, a letter, please bring it along. This is about you.
I always recommend bringing heirlooms that hold meaning. It anchors your portraits in your history, and there's something immensely beautiful about that.
Nerves are normal
Feeling a little nervous is completely normal.
Most people do.
It usually melts away within the first few minutes.
You don’t need to know how to pose. I’ll guide you through everything gently. And remember, by the time we see each other, I will be no stranger.
Questions?
Reach out anytime if anything feels unclear, or if you just want to talk something through before the session.
I can’t wait to create with you.
